Ipswich Grammar School (IGS) is Queensland’s oldest grammar school. But even schools with long histories and traditions need to be constantly thinking how to best face the future and achieve its goals.
With our extensive experience in the education sector, New Word Order was consulted to help frame and communicate a five-year strategic plan (2021–2025) for IGS to deliver to their various stakeholders.
Strategic plans need to sell a vision. For a well-established school such as IGS, living on your reputation can be dangerous territory. It’s vital to showcase your plans for the future.
With the strategic plan content developed by the school leaders, our challenge was to bring creativity and design to the project. Strategic plans need not be just documents that gather dust in the top drawer of a desk. They can be living, breathing manifestos of intent and accessible for all audiences.
Our goal was to breathe life into the strategic plan and give it the gravitas it deserved.
Our strategy for this project was to ensure the content was easy to consume and remember, and ensure the goals of the strategic plan were met.
Much of our early work involved using our extensive editing skills to hone the strategic plan content into easily understood language, and clearly outline the goals and measures of the plan.
Our team also put together a complementary list of materials that could communicate the strategic plan in the most compelling way, which included video, booklets and online resources.
Our studio team then went to work on designing materials that lifted the content and properly showcased the vision of IGS into the future. Part of our design process included putting a very human face on the content—it is the IGS students who have the most to gain from an adept and well-executed strategic plan.
A strong professional design framework is key to helping sell a vision like a strategic plan. The use of powerful graphics, visuals and icons can substantially elevate the depth of the written content.
The launch of the IGS Strategic Plan 2021–2025 resonated strongly with all the stakeholders—parents, students, staff and community—and holds firm to this day as a key part of the school’s communications.
The importance of professionally communicating strategic plans became increasingly evident to IGS throughout the process, and they were delighted with the response the plan garnered from their audiences.
